Application guide
Gas Springs for Heavy Equipment
Selected around your load, geometry, mounting space and operating environment.
What the mechanism needs to do
- Lift
- Reduce the effort needed to raise a machinery hood, service cover or access panel.
- Hold
- Support a panel in its intended open position while an operator performs routine work.
- Control
- Manage the speed of a heavy cover when the application calls for damping as well as support.
Engineer the complete movement
Construction, mining, logging and material-handling equipment often puts a large moving panel into a compact space. A useful gas-spring specification starts with the complete mechanism: panel weight and centre of gravity, hinge location, closed and open angles, proposed mounting points and the space available through the full arc of travel.
The operating environment matters too. Dust, moisture, vibration, temperature and the frequency of service access can change the appropriate material, mounting hardware and protection around the rod and seal. These conditions should be stated at the beginning of the selection process rather than treated as an afterthought.
For a replacement, the existing part number is helpful but not sufficient on its own. A clear photograph, extended and compressed lengths, stroke, end fittings and mounting orientation let Gemini compare the old part with the way the machine actually moves.

What to send us
- Panel data
- Weight, dimensions, centre of gravity and hinge position.
- Movement
- Closed and open angles, desired handle force and available stroke.
- Installation
- Mounting-point locations, space limits, orientation and end fittings.
- Environment
- Dust, moisture, vibration, temperature and expected use pattern.
Replacing an existing part? Include clear photographs of the spring label and both mounting points. You can also use the gas spring configurator to organize the basic dimensions.
