Gas Springs for Agricultural Equipment

Engineer the complete movement

Force, length and stroke only make sense in the context of the whole assembly.

Tractors, harvesters and implements use gas springs on panels that differ widely in size, hinge arrangement and frequency of operation. Selection begins with the panel weight and centre of gravity, then checks how the proposed mounting points move from fully closed to fully open.

Field conditions should be part of the specification. Dust and debris around the mounting area, vibration in transit or operation, moisture, cleaning practices and seasonal temperature changes can all affect the preferred configuration and installation details. Side loading and misalignment must be avoided through the full stroke.

For an obsolete or unidentified agricultural gas strut, send photographs of the installed part and both end connections. Measure the centre-to-centre extended and compressed lengths, stroke, shaft and tube diameters, and note whether the door or cover uses one spring or a matched pair.
